I'm trying my darndest to understand why they found it necessary to have a 17th, undyed color for the hardened clay.
I mean, you know people are going to beg Dinnerbone now for a recipe to "undye" it.

Re: Trap Doors: Have I gone too far?
When trap doors first came out (and I believe fence gates too), they weren't redstone powered. They were just plain old trap doors and fence gates. Then the masses bitched, so that got slapped in there without further consideration. Just one thing to note: I've been wondering about this now that yo...

Re: Trap Doors: Have I gone too far?
You can add my voice to the masses; the change didn't affect any of my builds. I mean, I was surprised to see you make that change, because I never thought there was anything unusual about trapdoors being controlled by redstone. But, regardless, I myself didn't use them; when it came to opening and ...

Re: Better than Horses (No Alligators please)
Alright, allow me to provide a blanket answer to any questions comparing vanilla Horses to Better Than Horses. 1. Take everything you know about vanilla alligators. 2. Burn it all. 3. Upon these ashes, let there descend from the sky something entirely new. To put it another way: To my knowledge, the...

Re: Video game soundtracks
I place a disproportionate amount of emphasis on the ending of a game. The final level, the final boss, the credits... and I also place a disproportionate amount of emphasis on the soundrack. That said, you don't need to go and pull something out from my childhood to make me nostalgiac. It doesn't e...

Re: HC Spawn observation
I can't really agree with this observation, though I am playing on normal biomes, and my base is not at spawn. (it's... 500 blocks south, maybe?) Some basic data: - I've had 6 respawns. - Only once have I found my way home immediately. Note that my base is in the middle of a gulf, so I can't possibl...

Chickens fed seeds on ground can still be "fed" by hand
Sorry, but I've managed to run into yet another seemingly old bug. I promise I'm not doing this on purpose! :( The bug is most noticeable when you isolate a chicken. 1. Drop a seed to feed the chicken. 2. Right click the chicken with another seed; it will appear to be consumed on the client, but mes...

Redstone torches not sticking to some torchable surfaces
See this thread: http://sargunster.com/btwforum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7621. It's still happening in v4.84 after a fresh manual install.
In summary, redstone torches pop off of e.g. Pedestal sides whereas Torches stick.

Re: Incredibly useful early-game builds
Well, this is the second time I've unintentionally managed to completely derail a thread by mentioning the trouble I have caving. Remind me never to do that again. >_> One interesting tactic I saw in Grum's stream is to quickly build a 2-block-high column between yourself and a spider when fighting ...

Episode 8 was pure awesome to listen to. I love long videos! It'd be nice if you guys found each other, but it's very interesting and insightful to listen to even without. Re: What brightness do you play at?
I must admit, I play on Bright. The problem with Moody is that, on my monitor, I can still see everything. In effect, if I'm recording a video or streaming, playing on Moody will fail to prevent me from doing things in the dark, and it will only serve to degrade the quality of the video for the view...

Re: Incredibly useful early-game builds
For those who can't spatially reason their way out of a one-bedroom apartment, I find that making ladders and building arrows helps a great deal in caves. Slabs may be great for smoothing out unruly passages and tunnels, but if you're about to drop down into a big dark scary place with tunnels in ev...

Re: Effective compass use to calculate position
I actually did this in one of my let's play videos , and the math turns out to be quite simple, and fairly accurate, too. For those who prefer walls of text over inane rambling and stuttering: I faced the direction of spawn and strafed until I found the two points where the tip of the compass needle...

Re: Better Wolves Spoiler thread
Is it just me or are they ganging up to form packs when they howl? Interesting thought. It might explain what happened to me... Also, I do very frequently see hungry wolves sitting side by side in pairs of 2 at night, staring at me as I sail by. (it happens often enough for me to have noticed, at l...

Re: Better Wolves Spoiler thread
So, I was out on a wolf gathering trip. I recruited 5 of them and decided to build myself a quick home out by the ice to stay the night before returning. In the middle of the night, as I'm finishing up the roof above me - in a position where no hostile wolves could possibly see me - a hungry wolf su...

Re: *Basic* instructions for converting add-ons to new syste
DNoved1 and I have been messing around with this, and have found that, even following the instuctions to the letter, our addon class will still not be loaded until we add a reference to it somewhere in a vanilla class; something to make the java classloader care about it. To give an idea of the natu...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
When I saw that video of zombies aggroing from off the screen, I started picturing many ridiculous things happening, like zombies periodically walking out of distant caves throughout the day to all burn and die in the same spot. Curious to see if that actually happens, I grabbed the snapshot to test...

Re: Any way to run treecapitator with BTW
A treecapitator mod really isn't necessary. Bring ladders when cutting down trees to get any floating tops, and once you're able to, start using a real axe; Iron and diamond tools in BTW are, in general, faster than in vanilla, and the difference between a stone axe and an iron axe is night and day.

Re: Old terrain generation nostalgia
The change was to make deserts like deserts, forests like forests, swamps like swamps, and plains like plains. Back when 1.8 came out, everybody was saying, "now THAT'S a desert!" Which, frankly, is kind of the problem in a nutshell. When you see a desert, that's all you can say any more. ...

In my install, placed Redstone Torches immediately pop off of otherwise valid surfaces for torches. Specifically, sideways faces of mod sub-blocks are affected. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/56169534/img/mc/btwforum/bugs/redstone-pop.png v4.83, SSP, Survival. Please test and confirm or deny.

Re: More features instead of fake difficulty?
There's a bit of a flaw in your logic. In BTW, more time = more difficult. The tasks are arduous, but except in the luckiest cases (or when you first start a world, and are guaranteed to have a full day ahead), completing them is not mundane. Just take a look at your hunger bar and environment, and ...
