Chickens fed seeds on ground can still be "fed" by hand

Sorry, but I've managed to run into yet another seemingly old bug. I promise I'm not doing this on purpose! :(

The bug is most noticeable when you isolate a chicken.
1. Drop a seed to feed the chicken.
2. Right click the chicken with another seed; it will appear to be consumed on the client, but messing around with that inventory slot will make it return.

Other animals are not affected.

If you toss (q) the absent seed from the spot where it was in your hotbar, it returns.
