Hey,
I've been aware of these forums for awhile so thought I'd give posting a shot. I'd like to say that I've been playing BTW for a long time, and well I have kinda. I remember a long time ago when it was just a few blocks to play around with but the problem is that I never got that far with the mod since life and the nature of minecraft tend to cause problems. Anyway onto the main topic. I'm really just looking for some tips for getting started into BTW, with a glance at the recipes it looks like you can no longer make the jump straight to water power which mean a whole ton of hemp needs to be harvested. Any tips on maximising hemp output early on? But just general tips will be greatly appreciated.
Here's what I have so far:

A flat grassland area I made for all my farming and some animal breeding before getting onto some more impressive breeding options.
Closer view of farms with hemp, wheat and pigs.
Underwater semi-sphere for a house (A whole crap ton of work went into that)
Few things to remember:
- Don't cut down the bottom half of a grown hemp plant, just cut the top half and it'll grow back faster
- Each hemp grinds into 4 hemp fibres
- 216 hemp fibres make a windmill, that's 54 hemp leaves
I start off by planting 10 hemp plants (keep destroying long grass, or hoe it) and go up to about 20 after the windmill

Ah I see, I don't think it will take as long as I first thought since hemp definitely seems to grow slower in the early stages as apposed to the later stages of growth. Thanks for the reply :D
Other advice would be to use iron tools for almost everything up to the point you can make a crucible, since you can then reclaim the iron (so long as you don't let the tools break). You'll devastate a lot less of the landscape looking for hemp seeds with an iron hoe as opposed to a stone one, for example.
That, and make sure you have manual farms for pretty much everything going as soon as you can. Reeds get swallowed in vast quantities for explosives and wicker, wheat doubles as replenishable food and fodder for starting animal farms, and if you like the look of vine traps you'll be wanting to find a nice large wall to get them to grow on.

Or you can have four millstones lined up. There is enough time between hand cranks cooldowns to operate them all at full speed and swallow donuts in process.
Well... if we're going to talk about the Gimp suit, get yourself some wolves, feed them, keep them in a dark hole. Collect their poop. Tan that leather... Profit?
The spice must flow...
