My mod Idea, Just wanting an opinion

I’ve been thinking about this idea for my first mod, It was based on a mod that took a direction I really didn't like so

You combined items with reed to create specific enhanced reeds eg iron ore and reed makes Iron ore reed, but it can only grow on iron ore (maybe)
It would be crafted like this
r = reed
I = Iron
III
IRI
III

This give you iron reed, but to turn it into iron, you must put 9 Iron reed into the millstone which gives Iron fillings and then you put it in a crucible, which will give you one iron, It would be same or similar for the rest of metals

The other idea would be to cross a sapling with the reed, creating wood Reed (which you grow) which you get nine of put in a crafting table to create a plank of wood

The names at the moment are temporary as I am really bad at naming things

So what do you guys think? Would it be over powered?

If some of the words are wrong I apologise, I have dyslexia which causes some spelling, word and Grammar Problems

Yeah, it does seem a little OP (reed-style plants are really, really easy to automate) tbh.

Seems like a fairly simple idea for a first mod though :) nothing worse than over-ambition. Good luck!

It may be a bit OP since reeds/two+ block high plants=super easy automation, and it would be really cool to see if you could get it to grow is a new way, but good luck anyways:)

Maybe make it a slow growing plant that spreads over stone, like moss.

Perhaps do it with vines instead as they require large numbers of block dispensers to automate. Requiring 36 or 81 iron vines per iron ore by making an intermediate item could help balance as well.

Well I have been reading some of tutorials and I think from what i understood I know how to make it so it can only grow on a specfic block, How high it grows and Its speed
so I could make it difficult, to grow

I dont quite understand what you mean by an intermediate item, could you explain more ?

4-9 iron vines create an iron vine rope or some such. This is the intermediate.

9 iron ropes create an iron vine mat which can be ground in a mill to create iron ore. Total vines required to make 1 iron ore are now 36-81.
