Re: BTW: Design Philosophy
If you have infinite fire from hibachis, doesn't that make having to use nether coal for steam kind of nonsensical? I'm not sure if you were responding specifically to me but, it would be a fair point if this were real life. Why do we still use wood/charcoal/coal/nethercoal to smelt items in a furn...

Re: BTW: Design Philosophy
I was (and still am, to a degree) very skeptical of the entire concept. Steam power seemed superfluous in a game that already had the concept of essentially infinite mechanical power built in. However, the more I think about it, and read what others have said, the more it makes sense. First, my work...

Re: BTW Compatible Texture Packs
Just curious but are there any other texture packs that work with this mod besides those 4, kinda limiting on choices. Considering how many are out there. Not a big deal just curious of what other people have used that works well if you have and don't mind posting them here so others can see me inc...

Re: BTW: Design Philosophy
Capax: I absolutely love your description of the interior of an age. We were so focused on defining what an Age was and where it started and ended, that we did end up glossing over what is contained within it. The Scarcity/Use/Mastery (SUM) paradigm seems to fit so well as to be obvious, though I t...

Re: BTW: Design Philosophy
First off, like others here, I don't believe that vM has any definable Ages. I think we have only seen one age so far in BTW; that is the age of wood. I see the BTW mod right now as two distinct parts. The first part serves to flesh out some of the concepts (specifically, redstone) in vM. It encompa...

Re: Making videos
I use recordMyDesktop. An excellent program and free as in beer. Unfortunately it is only for GNU/Linux. Fraps is probably you best option for windows.
I have used many, they all seem to work pretty well.
I have never used music.

Re: BTW: Design Philosophy
@Adjudicator79 First off I would like to apologise for the terrible grammar I displayed in my previous post. Once again I am reminded why I shouldn't be writing anything after midnight. I agree with almost all of what you said. The only thing I might add is that the adventure update may be changing ...

Re: BTW: Design Philosophy
Capax infiniti: I think, rather than the semi-linear context blazeboy91 proposes, the logical progression is a more workable framework for discussion. That framework allows for the possibility that BTW seeks to simply add a (forgive the repetitive term) logical expansion to vM, rather than supersed...

Re: General Help
You only need to attach the DB to the gearbox that is closest to the windmill.TheAbyss90 wrote:
*facepalm* You are quite right. Would I need to hook up restone to every gearbox in the chain or just the one closest to the windmill? I would test this myself but silly me accidently updated

Re: BTW: Design Philosophy
To answer your main question, I definitely favor the logical progression of the BTW mod. Principally for the reason that it is indeed "realistic". In my opinion, realism, as long as it isn't at the expense of accessibility is a very desirable trait to have in a game. Logical progression is...

Re: General Help
I have a question concerning the windmill. I read that ALL gear boxes connected to one will break when it rains/snows. Can placing blocks above the windmills so said weather effects dont land directly on it stop this? If not I really dont see a point with windmills for mechanical power use. Not tha...
