Re: Stuff that never felt right.

Two thing that bothered me but I have gotten used to not thinking about them; First is getting cobble stone/ smooth stone from lava. It was just odd given how much stone you get from just mining. Second is opening nether portal with just a flint and steel on obsidian. You get a bucket and poof you c...

Re: Stuff that never felt right.

I have always looked a MC as a fractured reality, so things like floating islands I can ignore with that mind set. Steve's will becomes an important force in MC world, that is why he can force things to take shape in the crafting bench, so I can ignore him making diamond blocks and such. The plants ...

Re: Thinking about the weak sunlight of VMC

There is an MC2, it's called 0x10c and there's some footage for you to look at. With that, I'm also out of this thread. That message is rant-worthy for me too and I'd have to go into deeper and deeper detail to explain everything. Be careful with what you say, as it's obviously not said by someone ...

Re: Thinking about the weak sunlight of VMC

I'd love having that extra bit and colored lighting, you'd be able to push the game's pretty factor by a lot, with some extra game mechanics to boot. Alas... I didn't think about colored lighting at all. I wonder if it would be better for Mojang to make a MC2 with all they have learned or keep on w...

Yeah my bad. I know shit about coding so I shouldn't go there and the intent of this post was to think about what MC would be like with a stronger sun.

That's not just Java ;)
Maybe they could use those extra 3 bits to give directional lighting or help fix the bugs they have.

Thinking about the weak sunlight of VMC

Recent posts about light and torches have got me thinking about how weak the MC sun really is. I often make up stories for my self explaining this, one of these stories is that the MC star is dying. When I play BTW I imagine that the full strength can't get through because it's in a sub-dimension. I...

Re: 4.62 Balance Observations & Discussion

It's a small thing but the transition from scrabbling for every spare nugget of iron to 'goddamn that's a lot of iron' as soon as you get a crucible into the system is kind of jarring. Would it make sense at this point to introduce a little bit of loss into melting iron back down now that ingots ar...

Re: Silverfish questions (spoilers)

Silverfish really aren't designed to be farmed in the overworld, only in the end. That sole spawner in each stronghold is actually a real pain in the ass design wise, and was why I removed the overworld clay drop from silverfish. Perhaps I should nuke the scroll drop too, as yeah, I really don't wa...

This was talked about the other night in IRC. From what I understood, your swimming will not be affected by being fat but you will not be able to float. You will still have to tread water.

Re: Would you consider MC to still be in Alpha?

Going by that definition, every single (active) MMO is permanently in alpha. As for MC in particular... I am pretty sure the various phases have been completely arbritarily chosen anyway, dictated solely by Notch's whims. The "full" release being the most blatant one, with Notch being fed...

Would you consider MC to still be in Alpha?

Not being an expert in game development I can't accurately judge these things, but From what I understand, the Alpha phase is were you are still adding features and Beta is were you working out the bugs and balancing game play. With all the additions that Mojang is adding to MC, it really feels like...

Re: Living on a doughnut

First off the ring would have to have an an orbital velocity around the sun. If you didn't it would quickly destabilize and fall into the sun. So I don't have to describe it later; orbital velocity is where the forward velocity is balanced with the gravitational pull so the one object is in free fal...

Trying to get your tools and armor down to 1 hp seams a bit tedious to me. While I see your concerns at someone trying to save some infinite resources like "sticks/padding/hafts" but would it really be worth FC's time to fix. We'll have to see what he has to say.

Erm... Do you even understand the physics behind this? A dyson sphere or ringworld with Sufficient mass for gravitational acceleration would not only immediately contract into a black hole, but if it didn't it would rip apart your body from inequal tangential accelerations. Actually I do understand...

Re: Living on a doughnut

Theoretically It IS possible to make a ring world or Torus by altering a bit of how the game works but the problem you'll run into is where the 'ends' connect, unless you made major changes to the whole code of minecraft there would be one line(or 2 for a torus) where the biomes on either side are ...

Re: Living on a doughnut

The ramifications of a ring/doughnut world in minecraft are never going to matter to most players. The regular minecraft world is 8 times the size of our own planet, and a full-scale Niven ringworld would be three million times the size of earth. Even with nether travel and optimal terrain, that's ...

Zombies, skeletons and creepers drove me to ask this. Mainly just sorting noisy skeletons and zombies from the quite creepers. I know there is a way to sort them via pathfinding but such a system feels too "fragile" too easy and leaves me worrying if the creepers got to the snow golems do...

Ringworld? I do like how you think. The concept of a ring world has always been attractive to me and and I have thought about it a lot, but this would be only a good solution if you wanted a continuous day on the sun side and night on the star side but my friend wants a day night cycle. I would lov...

Re: Sound Sensor?

FC and the others expanded quite well how sound is only for the benefit of the player, but sound is usually associated with an event. If there was a specific event that you had in mind for detection, then that would be the starting point for creating a detection system. Lets say you wanted to know w...
