Re: Animal lure mob trap.

I just planted a couple cactus plants on the roof above my chicken pen. Every morning there's a few string and spider eyes up there, and no spiders. I'm sure some drops are getting destroyed by the cactus, but it's free stuff, hard to complain about the efficiency.

Fishing pole icon

When a fishing pole is damaged, the durability bar covers up most of the hook/bait, making it difficult to see at a glance whether a fishing pole is already baited, especially in a chest.

Re: Spinning Ideas [Trying to not lose hope...]

I was in a fairly similar situation before I started my current job, almost ten years ago. I was staying in an apartment with my roommate in Lansing, MI. Job hunting was frustrating. In the end, I moved back home. Well, onto my grandparents' couch. I picked up a local factory job that was close enou...

Re: Fertilizer

There's nothing wrong with adding more complexity to a system, such as TNT -> powder keg, functionally equivalent, but much more complex. However, this has already been done with bonemeal, from the old vanilla instant growth substance, to a realistic fertilizer. Meaning, this would require a great d...

Re: Regarding mod files

I've done a bit of thinking about this myself. There IS a way to modify a BTW base class without distributing any BTW code, with a difference patch . The installation would be a pain, though, since the end user would have to install modloader and btw, then extract the classes from their jar, apply t...

Congrats on releasing your first mod man :) Thanks! It was a real eye-opening experience. I'm now really seeing the modding effort vs payoff debate in a new light. I promise to never make ridiculous suggestions again! That looks really awesome man. I think I will give this one a shot. Not at all wh...

[BTW 4.21-4.22] Ecksie Trees v1.00

So after two weeks of blood, sweat, and tears, I am ready to release my first mod: Ecksie Trees, an addon for Better Than Wolves. This is my first attempt at modding Minecraft, my first time ever using Java, and, to be honest, the first thing I've ever coded that I've released publicly. It was a rou...

Re: Ubuntu, at last!

I would like to put a warning flag on that part. You can activate scheduled defragmentation on Windows (in the background, when there's not much load), not sure which version that came in. BUT, make sure to turn that OFF if you are using a SSD; SSD do not require defragmentation and it is in fact d...

Re: Ubuntu, at last!

The reasons for trying Linux are just as varied as for trying Mac OS. I honestly am not sure what "hype" you are talking about, it is something that users rave about and everyone else complains about. It is an acquired taste, to be sure. I was forced into learning it in college. I took a U...

Re: Ubuntu, at last!

Hm, wierd. Did you copy all 3 of the .jars that Minecraft uses? Actually, there are nine files that have to be updated. The three in the .minecraft/bin directory and all six of the files in the .minecraft/bin/natives directory. In the lwjgl zip file there will be four sets of the natives files, for...

I hate it so much. Two of my deaths on jaded's server were because of this damn bug :I It happens when you hit a key a click at the same time, I think they key recognizes it's pressed, but then doesn't register when you release it. Not only do I now once again carry both a clock and compass at all times, I have actually starting making the classic 1x1 dirt/sand towers again in order to see what my minimap used to show me. Re: Ubuntu, at last!

Ran into an almost identical problem on mine, tracked it down to a Microsoft 'feature'. No matter how much physical RAM you have installed, home premium will only allow you to use a max of 2Gb. You had 4Gb just sitting there unused, because you didn't pay enough to use it. Factor in how much Window...

Re: Ubuntu, at last!

Just purchased a new laptop with some of my birthday money, typing this on it. Back around Dapper Drake/Edgy Eft I used Ubuntu exclusively on my main machine. Later I tried debian, LFS, Mandrake, and finally settled on Linux Mint for over a year. Naturally, the first thing I installed on this laptop...

Re: Is Anarchy gameplay realy that much fun?

I have three basic problems that keeps me from playing anarchy in BTW. 1) Destroying is very easy. Building is hard, especially complex BTW machinery that actually does something. In a normal minecraft world, if I see half a house missing due to a creeper crater, I can usually very quickly figure ou...

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation

I haven't looked at the video since I'm at work, but I thought I might be worth pointing out they are fiddling with the redstone system since we use so much redstone in the mod. The first bug they show off is the North/South redstone update quirk. This has been a part of redstone since it was first...

Re: Likely changes to F3 and its implications

I think one thing last thing that wasn't discussed much in the other thread was the problem of finding other people's bases. For example, in the past we could just whisper the coords of our base to someone we wanted to lead there. However, with f3 out of the picture, this will become incredibly dif...

I've been playing on Nocturn Craft server, but the Admin went AWOL and now the server is down (it never updated from 4.12). I'd like another non-PvP server to get involved in. IGN: Indras Goal: Automation "modules," small machines that just do one thing, and can be stacked or connected via...

Re: got wolves?

I don't think the world replenishes animals, unless it's a server and it's set to do so. I've had to go up to 5km (5000 blocks) away to find wolves. You have a fairly good chance of finding them in taiga and once in a while in forest. Searching can be a whole adventure in itself :) I can verify the...

MC1.3 Quirk: Seeking a Workaround

First: this is not a bug, either Minecraft or BTW bug. I know this. I have two computers that I regularly play Minecraft on. I transfer my save files between them with a USB thumb drive. Hey OldMarriedDude, don't feel left out because of your age. BTW's complexity has a natural tendency to repel the younger players, due to the lack of instant gratification (i.e. magic blocks, boots of flight, etc). I'm married, have two kids, and I turn 30 tomorrow, so I'm right in the same boat wit...

I feel terrible, I know what it is like. I've had to bury two of my own cats over the years. One I discovered in the road out in front of my house while coming home from school. The experience changes you.

Re: Automating Companion Cubes?

I'm rather interested in this, as well. I discovered recently that companion slabs have a very special feature that no other block has. It can sit in front of a powered saw without being broken or breaking the saw. I originally used them on sticky pistons to push mobs directly into saws in a waterle...
