How to Downgrade Vanilla and Remove the Update Pester

Downgrading vanilla:

Use the official Mojang backups (change the version number in the url for other versions):

1.5.2: http://assets.minecraft.net/1_5_2/minecraft.jar

Or use MultiMC:

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1000645-

Removing the update pester:

1.5.2
Make sure that the number in the version file (.minecraft/bin folder) is equal to the latest version:
1367502965000 (will try to update this to the latest one at any point)

For servers:

Same as for client jars:

1.5.2: http://assets.minecraft.net/1_5_2/minecraft_server.jar

Modloader's MCF post should have previous versions.

Do your research. It doesn't.

Do your research. It does. (EDIT: apparently not the latest ones)

EDIT: seriously man, what the hell? Acting like an ass is one thing, but on the tech support forum where people are looking for basic help?

EDIT: apparently 1.4.7 isn't in the old versions folder, I'm trying to figure out people, patience :)

EDIT: found out, updated OP

Yeah, apparently it isn't in the standard modloader old versions area. I have no idea where I got my version, as I was on a different computer without my mods, so I'm not sure. But the rudeness was totally uncalled for.

He changed from Mediafire to Dropbox. There's no folder to look at, but you can figure out the URLs. The info is already on top if you want.

Eh, it was infuriating false information that was actively hindering. Sorry if I was a little short with him/her.

I'd like to add on that the 1.4.7 server can be found at:
http://assets.minecraft.net/1_4_7/minecraft_server.jar

That's already in the OP, but thanks anyway :p

Updated OP for the latest versions. I'm not sure about the version number, seems to be the same as 1.5.1, can anyone confirm?

Was able to upgrade to v4.80 thanks to you, so I can confirm it all works!

Thanks you so much! I had everything figured out except for modloader, I didn't see anything mentioning a dropbox and his old versions link didn't help.

So much thanks Gilberreke!

Edit: For clarification, I used your modloader and 1.5.1 mojang backup links both. Tested before posting, works great!

The usefulness of this post really is significant and continues to be relevant. I would merit it should be stickied.

Hi, I tried using your Modloader link, but it seems incompatible with the newest MCPatcher. I've tried installing it with the patcher itself, or manually after patching, but it just crashes the game. Is anyone else getting this problem?

I'm using MCPatcher 3.0.4, the newest version as far as I know.

Are you installing modloader before or after BTW? Also, if it crashed it is usually polite to include the crash report as well. Even though you may be unable to read it, usually one of us can :)

Edit: My attempt at being kind was ruined by a missing IT

Ah, sorry. I'm rather new at asking for tech support with mods. Usually i just try installing in various orders until something works.

I did install modloader before BTW- in fact, I just did some testing, and I get a crash even without the patcher or BTW installed. The game seems to have a disagreement with modloader.

Here's the full report:

It's all very strange. This is on a clean install of Minecraft, as far as I can tell.

Duru: Try force-updating and starting over from scratch. Alternatively, use MCPatcher to install, there should be a guide for that somewhere on these forums.

Well, force-updating would bring me to 1.5.2, which BTW is incompatible with.

I've also tried installing with MCPatcher, but that didn't work.

The issue seems to be with the version of Modloader I got from this thread. Maybe my Minecraft install is wonky? Any idea where I can get a clean install of Minecraft 1.5.1?

I'd take a guess that you didn't select MINECRAFT-JAR folder in MCPatcher so that's why it's not even showing up in the crash log.

I should've been clear: The crash log is from an install of modloader only. It seems that minecraft doesn't like the version of modloader linked to in the OP, so I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing issues with this specific version, or knew what I was doing wrong.

EDIT: Tried redownloading Minecraft 1.5.1 from the link in the OP, installed modloader, still got the same crash. I have no idea why this keeps happening.

EDIT2: Resolved it. Turns out modloader has problems with the 'mods' folder having too many items in it, or something. Go figure. Looks like I finally get to try out BTW with all the hardcore modes (haven't installed it in months)!

Thanks for the help.

Updated the info, but the version file is still the same. Can someone confirm that the update pester fix still works? Might be a problem with my installation.

Unstickying this since we're up with vanilla now.

Hehe, fair enough. I guess this thread is future compatible with 1.6 :)
