Not all VMC players want to play an easy game.

Here is a post on reddit where they forbade pickaxes, buckets, saplings.. on an SMP server.

He used Command Blocks in the spawn chuck on a clock, removed items from player's inventory. So they always fire once a second.

I'm amazed that these guys banned Buckets. So to show that FC is on to something with hardcore buckets.

Very interesting how their world looks. They can't spam torches..
They even use Creepers to mine. That's awesome.

Thought you guys would love this.

OK...that's extremely cool :)
A little too hardcore for my tastes(I like my large stone brick buildings), but I can definitely see the appeal of this

That's my kind of server! Probably a little too hardcore for my tastes too, but just a little! It would be really interesting in an anarchy setting as well, surface buildings may actually be viable.

It might be interesting to play with a dramatically nerfed pickaxe instead of no pickaxe at all, so that it's not worthwhile mining stone at all without explosives, but you can still get iron and coal, if you find it in a cave -- it just takes a very long time to dig out and wood and stone axes have a very short durability.

This is very interesting. I'm just surprised at how much construction was made of wood. I would imagine, with trees never being replaced, that all construction would be out of dirt and to a lesser extent cobble.

These folks still have a lot to learn if they are building farms around waterfalls like that. Is that inexperience or aesthetics?

You know what that bridge over the dark valley is exactly how lighting mechanics should work!

Those guys should play btw. They would love it.

This is soooo interesting. I'm tempted to quickly write a mod that does this and try it out. This is actually pertinent to the lighting thread. Torches are really expensive, so players light up this small area, with darkness all around them.

I wonder if we would play it differently though? I imagine that I would just quickly make a mobtrap out of dirt, collect the gunpowder, start making TNT and win the game. Or am I missing something?

You are missing the fact that withour iron we would not be able to make saws. Also we would have to go to the enf in order to make gunpowder

They don´t seem to use wool as building material, even through they have sheep of each color.

It is simple and it works. What else do you need?

In all fairness, it is Vanilla, that farm is probably enough to feed several players and still stockpile chests and chests of excess!

Saws? This is a vanilla server. Gunpowder drops from creepers.

Huh, looking at that lighting... I wonder if simply removing Wood -> Charcoal would produce similar results, at least on SMP?
Or is coal just too frequent for that?

Coal is extremely abundant but without picks you have to herd creepers in order to harvest it. Charcoal becomes a vital resource in this case, even if trees are non-renewable.

Yea, that was my thought, but I didn't know how to tell them that.

This ruleset wouldn't work for BTW. Because BTW uses a lot of wood.

Oh vanilla. That's right. They play with those wonky rules don't they?

Charcoal is banned on their server too!
