BWR 0.23.0440 has been released. See the changelog for changes.

Because of significant code refactoring, the automatic update alert feature will probably not alert you about this release. Update alerts will probably begin working when 0.24 is released, though there may be a bug or two to work out...

I've started working on a skyblock remix that's designed for BWR.

RenewaBlock: http://gitorious.org/bwr/renewablock

It's very unfinished at the moment, or more accurately, BWR is unfinished, so the entire tech tree is not yet accessible; for instance, you cannot get diamonds, lenses, or glowstone. However, you should be able to breed saplings, get to the nether, make redstone, make clay, and maybe even steel and water pumps.

Special thanks to casinodoug, creator of the BTW skyblock map, on which this one is loosely based.

UPDATE: Renewablock has now been spun off onto its own thread: http://sargunster.com/btwforum/viewtopi ... =12&t=6594

Hey guys, not sure if any of you use Uristqwerty's CraftGuide mod, but I just saw this in the changelog for his update to MC 1.4.6:
-1.6.5.12

Include recipes for the serverside BTW mod "Better With Renewables". Only shows if a config option is set or if a message from BWR is detected on connect.
I don't think he's updating the thread here anymore, so thought I'd pass this along to you guys here.

Yeah they work with Urist a lot, they definitely know, it's good to have that info out though :)

Edit: Sorry if I came off as being sarcastic, I was actually trying to be encouraging >_<
But yeah, people should go check out craftguide.

Hey, I'm just passing on info, you know? :)

I'm glad Urist is taking the time to add compatibility with BtW to his mod, it's a great addition to the game and I feel that I need to spread the word about it.

BWR will now send a custom plugin channel message to each client upon its connection, to notify add-ons/mods such as CraftGuide, of the presence of BWR. This is not yet released, and will be in the upcoming 0.24 release of BWR.

Also, thanks to Uristqwerty, who not only added BWR support to CraftGuide, but helped us debug the plugin channel code in BWR.

For anyone who may have missed it (or in case the update notification feature isn't working), BWR 0.24 has been released. Changes were minor for this release, mostly internal housekeeping work. As always, details are in the changelog.

Are you aware of any Youtube video which details BWR and how all the renewables work? Thanks.

There aren't any right now, but you're welcome to make them.

Personally, my current minecraft machine lags to hell when I use recordmydesktop.

I know TaterBoy is investigating doing a Let's Play series on my Inhospitable Wasteland server using CamStudio and Mumble.
There's only one V in my name, thanks.

<TaterBoy> I figured out why there's so much lag. We have too much iron.

Yes folks, that is the ability to entice wolves to breed while seated that you've wanted for your companion cube factories. Now with extra horrific side effects!

...and it looks like FC may be doing something different in standard BTW. If what FC adds to BTW makes this functionality too redundant, we are likely to remove it from BWR, so don't get too attached to your automated wolf breeding designs quite yet.

I can't find it now, but I read that the ability to entice animals to spawn out side of a normal biome was added at some point. I'm curious if this includes low light (lava, maybe pumpkin) situations as well?

I've been interested in resurrecting a 404 challenge map with BTW (I have the map created, ported to anvil, and then biomes reset to pre 1.8), but I have yet to solve the getting animals issue.. My original thought (made possible recently) was making the rule that you can revisit the surface if you do so through a nether portal..

Anyway, going off topic.. would BWR solve the issue, or does it sound like something that would fit into a future version of bwr?

Edit for grammer

From the BWR README:
Animals in the Desert:
A couple of species animals can now spawn, very rarely, on tall grass, in full sunlight, if food is left out for them. Combined with animal cross-breeding, this makes desert-only superflat maps playable.
I should probably remove references to "desert" from that blurb, as that used to be a requirement, but no longer is. As of right now, this requires full, direct sunlight. I suppose it would not be too inconsistent to relax this and allow overworld spawning using Light Blocks, similar to how hemp is grown...

I knew it was somewhere I should have just reread the OP but, just couldn't remember the light requirements, thank you. I look forward to seeing if this is added, taking another stab at 404 with smarter mobs, and not making chest/ inventory changes is a plan for the future. And getting villagers through the nether from a distant portal to make a villager farm deep underground is very enticing.

I've recorded a video of most of the features in BWR as of the 0.25 release. This video demonstrates the recipes and/or basic builds necessary to take advantage of these features; note that these are spoilers for anyone who is trying to discover these on their own.

There is no audio, so feel free to play your own music :)

You may also want to play this fullscreen instead of using the embedded player, otherwise the subtitle text can be hard to read.

A question regarding updating: is there a way to automatically update BWR? I'm not sure how you do that without messing things up. The auto update checker is mentioning that version 0.25.0451 is available, but I'm not sure if there's a command to download it, or what steps to follow to manually install the new update.

The simplest method is just to follow the INSTALL instructions again (except for the environment setup part, unless you undid it after you built it the last time) and build a new server.

We've got a problem.

Post by Benanov »

BWR as it is ends at 4.56.

FC's changes to golems mean that villages won't get iron golems naturally. This means...no iron farms from golems - so no ingots pre-crucible for Skyblock.

Crucible requires Stoked Flame for both creation and operation (kiln to make, stoked to use), and Stoked Flame requires a Bellows. Bellows require a Saw.

And... no iron ingots, no saw.

The quick patch might just be an inefficient saw recipe. That solves the tech tree problem (and it will still require a belt) and doesn't give the player a way of making ingots pre-crucible.

Has anyone here ever successfully set up a BWR server on a Mac? I would like to know if it is possible before I devote a lot time into such an endeavor.

Edit: I know that it may not be my place, but I would like to offer an idea in respect to the problem of attaining iron. Don't click if you wish not to read my thoughts on the matter.

It could be possible to filter small amounts of iron out of dirt or sand. These small fragments could be similar to gold nuggets in a sense that it would take a large number of them to yield one ingot. I hope you don't hate my suggestion but if you do, I understand the hesitance to take ideas from strangers. I would just hate to see such a great idea and project come to a halt because of one obstacle.

No one has built BWR on a Mac, but that's really only because we don't have shiny fruit-labeled computers to test on. You *may* have luck with Fink. I'd follow the generic Linux/BSD instructions and see what ships with Mac OS these days. You definitely will need Python, Perl, and make (BSD make or GNU make both work.)

DaveYanakov and I have bandied about the solution. We're still at an impasse; it may just make sense to implement the suggestions and see what we can abuse. We really need to diagram the revisions and motivations in our modifications to the tech tree, which I might do this weekend if I finish my class assignment.

The problem with "iron nuggets" is it would require adding a new item, which is against the design goals of the project. ItemIDs are cheap but that means players need to patch their clients and that is not what we're after.

Ok I will make an attempt at it tonight and if I run into errors I can try and create the server in a windows virtual machine.

On the iron nuggets, that definitely makes sense and I agree with keeping the add on patch-free. Best if luck with finding a solution.
