Fraps issue (low priority)

Post by HavokSCOUT »

I'd love to be able to record me playing minecraft, and I even bought Fraps to do it, but when I hit the hotkey to record(F9), the framerate number doesn't turn red. It works outside of minecraft, so I was wondering what in minecraft could be causing this problem.

I don't use Fraps, but I've seen plenty of Minecraft videos made with it. Maybe the number isn't turning red but it's still recording? Or perhaps you could assign a different hotkey?

It does the same thing for me when I launch fraps after minecraft. When I have that problem, I just quit minecraft and start it again, and it works perfectly.

So start fraps, then minecraft. I'll give it a try. And if it were recording, it would save to the video folder, which it doesn't.

Also, I am using a modded client so that I can bypass the " Bad video card drivers" error.

OK here is what i think is goin on... Minecraft has taken over all the keys and when you press f9 it is not making it past the minecraft program and therefore it is not making it to the fraps program, a way around this may be to minimize MC click on the desktop hit f9 then bring up MC again! Hope this helps, otherwise i give permissions to slap meh!

Battosay's answer most likely resolved it. :)

Fraps can only record programs that are started up after it, so you need to have Fraps running before starting up Minecraft. (Because of this, Fraps has a tickbox to "startup with windows").

That's weird. I started Fraps, then Minecraft, and when I hit the hotkey, the number turned red for a split second, then back to yellow. I decided to try again, but this time with the folder open that fraps would send the video to, and when I hit the hotkey, it showed a file getting created in the folder, then it was gone. I'd say the problem was my drivers or graphics card, but I've already recorded video in a different program than Minecraft. Maybe its the memory I have left on my hard drive.

EDIT: I don't even have enough free memory to run disk defragmentation.

EDIT EDIT: Can I have FRAPS record to a DVD-RW that's in my cd slot?

Fraps (well, raw footage) needs a ton of HD space, I think my ~15 min video of my hemp farm took somehwere between 100 and 150 Gb.

Well, considering that my hard drive has a total capacity of 37 GB, I doubt I'll be making any hour long videos. :D
