Derzuel's HCB Challenge

Post by Derzuel »

A simple challenge that I my self will be starting on soon, but others are welcome to join if they want.

Ok here's the challenge; to make a facility that can harvest nine or more full stacks of wheat in a single instance while adhering to the following rules.

1. The whole facility may only make use of a single water source block
2. The facility may incorporate no more than 20 pieces of redstone dust. Repeaters count as 3 pieces and torches and pistons count as 1
3. Must be done entirely in survival mode with difficulty at normal or hard.
-Notes-
While the facility has a limit on the amount of redstone that can be used in its construction, you're free to use as much as you need in other applications, such as a cobble or stone generator.

You'll probably want to invest in a stone generator and pumpkin farm.

Have fun!

That would be really easy... All you'd need the redstone for is floodgate control :)

Yeah, that's really no challenge.
If you want an example, in the Redstone Wars video between tyken132 and Generikb tyken shows are very easy example.
Basically the wheat field is 6 wide and as long as you want and the waterstreams alternates direction each level.

Whisp I'd like to point out that he used 12 water source blocks(I think). In the Challenge you're only permitted one. Also he well exceded the allotted Redstone, and the farm wasn't even capable of netting a single stack of wheat let alone the 9 stacks required.

It was just an example for the design.
1.) Since it's modular you can add as much levels as you want and depending on the size per level you can easily net from half a stack to more than a stack per level.
2.) If you build a water stair at the top, you can flood the whole length of the field with one source block.
3.) This one block can easily be controlled by a single piston. If you control the piston directly with a lever, you don't need any redstone at all, but instead you have to climb to the top to start and stop it.

Whisp is right. The only "challenging" part is to arrange and even out the water flow, which is only a matter of time and annoyance even on Survival mode. That farm design can be made to use a single source block and a single redstone, for the piston controlled via lever, and can be extended both vertically and horizontally as far as the map permits for more stacks of wheat. Extending it on the third axis is also possible but does complicate the water flow arranging... slightly.
