Version 3.491 of Better Than Wolves is ready for download!
Download Link
This release contains the following changes:
-Updated the mod to version 1.1.0 of Minecraft
-Changed Hardcore Bucket mode so that lava may no longer be collected in a bucket to avoid exploits involving using it as a fuel. Attempting to do so will result in the player taking damage.

Enjoy :)

I was wondering how you were going to deal with the version number :)
Regardless, thanks for the update.

Well, in BTW you could infinitely fuel a furnace with a lava flow, and in BTB, you could infinitely power engines with one, so yeah ;)Ribky wrote: Edit: There was an exploit with lava buckets?
Re: New Release! (BTW V3.491)
Ahhhh, I still have only played around only a small amount with the engines, mostly the wood engine. And in BTW most of my cooking/smelting/gluifying is done with stewing pots, crucibles and kilns. In fact, I rarely even used lava as fuel for furnaces before I joined the BTW experience.

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.491)
Yeah, I don't use them either for fuel, but it seems that other people have been doing this, so I had to figure something out :)Ribky wrote:Ahhhh, I still have only played around only a small amount with the engines, mostly the wood engine. Re: New Release! (BTW V3.491)
I hope no BC addon has a lava bucket in any recipe :P
I wish I could keep up to date with BtW and MC, but I'm having way too little time on my hands lately, haven't played any mineraft for over 2 weeks..
Regardless, sheep wool regrowth alone is worth the update for me. Cheers :]

It would suck that they turn on a specific feature of the mod in a config file called 'Hardcore Bucket Mode' and expect buckets to still work as normal??FlowerChild wrote:Yeah...that would suck rather badly.MoRmEnGiL wrote:I hope no BC addon has a lava bucket in any recipe :P
Hmmmm.... perhaps I need to spend more time chatting to people on these forums... it appears I still have some optimism regarding people having some common sense.

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.491)
It would suck, because of the tide of WHY IT NO WORK once people realise they can't build their lava pipe laser cannon anymore or w/e. Though FC, small way around that would be to make it so steve can still get lava out of BC's storage tanks. That way lava's actually in the tech tree :3DaWhiskers wrote: It would suck that they turn on a specific feature of the mod in a config file called 'Hardcore Bucket Mode' and expect buckets to still work as normal??

Update is sexy though, farming blood leaves is finally a viable option :D

While I understand the 'Why it no work' point, I thought HCB was defaulted to off?
Anyways....
Another great update FC!!

Oh, you just wait... you just wait. There will be "why it no wurks", and there will be lots of them.
"I put HCB on and then I tried to pick up lava and I burned to death1!!!! Your mod is breaked!!!"
You just wait.

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.491)
I like the concept in theory, but it also means that lava buckets are no longer obtainable at all, which would make it impossible to obtain any items that use a lava bucket in its recipe, say, things added by mods.FlowerChild wrote: -Changed Hardcore Bucket mode so that lava may no longer be collected in a bucket to avoid exploits involving using it as a fuel. EDIT: Derpy Derpy me, replying immediately without reading the rest of the damn thread. This has already been brought up. Sorry to waste your time :)

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.491)
Well, when HCB mode is turned off, it's a non-issue. When people want to use HCB, they'll be happy to wait until they have the lava bucket filling station or whatever FC is planning. Which could of course be taken a step further by making lava buckets dump automatically if Steve switches to their inventory slot, since touching near molten steel with your bare hand is a bad idea.

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.491)
Oh, and one other thing: nice to see that there don't appear to be any major bugs. One of the things I hate about doing version updates is there's a large potential for bugs creeping in and going unnoticed since the mod has become way too large for me to test every single aspect of it.
It must have taken me a good eight hours to do the port just because I was going over every change with a fine-tooth comb to prevent problems, but the potential is always there.
Anyways, I've mentioned it elsewhere, but once again, the @Override label I picked up from SpaceToad has come in VERY handy as it caused me to spot several issues that would have resulted from MCP name-changes otherwise. This is actually the first time I've ever looked at another mod's code (I've never decompiled the code from a single other mod, as I always found it mildly objectionable to do so unless the author provided the code themselves), so it was nice to pick up a few Java tricks along the way when I started looking at BC ;)
