Re: Weekly Poll: #8 Cats or dogs (can't be voted anymore)?

Post by M!C »

Since I've been too busy this week I couldn't put up a new poll, so instead I only added the "cats ot dogs?" poll by The great randomo.

Next week I'd like to go for "What's your favorite game genre?"
I still need a list with the selectable genres though. I'd like your help for that. Please don't get too specific (10 options max.), something like strategy, RPG etc. should be sufficient.

mind games. They're the only games worth playing to win imo.

Bah, they need to hurry up with the third series imo.

Dating sims bore me tbh. Clannad was a work of art (if not a true dating sim) but others...meh. They try and overcomplicate things most of the time.

Ok, thanks for the input guys.
I think I'll change the question to a degree because many games obviously fit into more than one category (I'm not really talking about "genres" anymore because I don't think it fits qualities like "round-based") so you will be able to choose let's say three answers.

So far I've got on my list:
1. Racing
2. Strategy
3. round-based
4. RPG
5. Shooter (1st and 3rd person)
6. MMO
7. sandbox (for all who want to choose MC ;) )
8. Simulation (I don't really like that one yet because it's too general, atm it would contain anything from The Sims to Lock On)
9. "mind games", puzzles, riddles etc.

For the 10. choice I'd like to split up "Simulation", do you agree that flight sims make the biggest part of it? I really have no idea because I've never played something I'd call a dating sim ...

You're going to have a very tough time breaking this into just ten distinct categories man. Turn based (what I assume you mean by round based) is a particular vague one that can cover everything from Total War, to Magic The Gathering, to X-Com, to Chess, for example, and those are all wildly different genres.

Meanwhile, grand strategy games like the Hearts Of Iron, or Europa Universalis games would share more in common with Total War or Civilization, but aren't actually turned based.

I also don't see RTS games fitting into any of the categories you have defined, given that they aren't normally strategy games (with the exception of Hearts of Iron, etc), but are usually tactical in nature.

And yeah, simulation is also another one of these hugely broad categories that a whole range of game types could fit into (including some of the other categories you already have). Although, if you want to break out "Flight Sims", I'd go more for "Vehicle Sims" which would also cover stuff like submarine sims and tank sims.

Anyways, good luck sorting it all out ;)

Yeah, that's exactly my problem ... I'm not at all happy with the list I posted earlier and if I don't get inspired suddenly I might drop the question entirely. Or maybe I'll go for the most general categories only, we'll see.

Wtf is going on here? Is it just me or are there more than 10 possible answers in that new poll? Some of which are from a previous poll which I can't delete for some reason?

I'm definitely seeing some crazy shit.

(Doubles and triples mainly. But other than that, no 'old answers'.)

I'll attempt to get rid of it somehow ... don't vote for the moment as it will reset while I'm changing things around.

I tried resetting the poll but it still doesn't work ...

Wait didn't this happen to diegokilla's poll, too (the duplicating of answers)? Anyone remember how he got rid of it?

I may be overly vocal but I don't spend that much time here on average. It's mostly just five to twenty minutes at a time to scan for new posts plus research and replies if something snags my atten... Kitty!
