Can we get confirmation on whether or not chickens still hatch from thrown eggs? And has it changed in % chance?

I know breeding is part of 1.9 and I'm actually quite excited for that but there are two things that just don't make sense to me. Why remove the respawning prematurely if your not gonna add breeding until the next patch. And why remove it and NOT post it in the patch notes. It just makes it seem more like a bug than anything intentional.

And are you sure chickens still spawn from eggs? I threw 13 of them into the ground and nothing happened. :( (That was in 1.8 pre-release 1 though)
I do believe they said 1.9 will be released very shortly after 1.8.
Would be nice though to build large cattle farms etc for breeding.

Time to work on that Abbatoir farm Battosay! ;)
I think 1.9 is going to take at least 3-4 weeks, they still have a lot to add, NPC's (with some sort of AI), boss mobs, animal farming, more biome code work, and some goal/quest to do with strongholds.

The video I posted shows one spawning from a thrown egg, I assume the chance is still 1 in 8.

So far after hours of installing / uninstalling / Defraging / Deleting unnecessary files (Po&N) / Cursing and hitting computer with bat.... I still have the same BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH right after it has finished loading the world . So I did a complete Reinstall ( First I formatted my HDD's then re installed Windows XP SP3 X86 Then The latest JAVA then Minecraft ................. And after all that I still get the same F#@$ING BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH . I hope 1.9 is Better that 1.8 but then I thought 1.8 would be AN IMPROVEMENT on 1.7.3 :( :( ...... I have given up on 1.8 For now as it only works on my ancient Medieval 1.8 GHz notebook with 512 SDRAM.

Notch you have let Me down again :(

I really hope one of these days they stop adding new stuff and Make the game more stable. I mean JAVA is not exactly the best language for a Hardware intense game like minecraft C or C++ would have allowed them to take better advantage of The hardware e.g. using more that one core on a quad core.
to summarize I can't play minecraft 1.8 Or the pre releases on my PC due to a crash bug that occurs after the world has been loaded of generated but before I actually see in the world.

The MC server crashed. I was on the site a few minutes ago to download the newer client-- but by the time I clicked the link it had crashed to "Bad Gateway"ing me.

Edit: Also, is it just me, or is Twitter down too? Tried to check Jeb's or Notch's for any updates on MC.net, but both keep timing out.

Yeh I keep getting 502 bad gateway errors on MCF as well. It's intermittent though, keep refreshing and stuff eventually loads up.

Did you get this fixed? There is a known bug for something similar to this added in 1.8 on the wiki.
As of the 1.8 update, OpenGL 1.3 or better is required to run. Computers running older versions of OpenGL will receive a black screen on loading any world file.[1]
Have you tried updating your video card drivers? Otherwise your video card may not support OpenGL 1.3.

Yeah, the whole Java is slower than C++ is a big urban legend, don't buy into it. Java is perfectly capable of multi-threading and Minecraft uses OpenGL for its graphics, so there's no Java bottleneck there either.

This is kind of funny! But I guess with the sheer number of people who access these sites at the same time, it actually is pretty useful.

This just kinds strikes me as shoddy design on Mojangs part. Yes I'm having more fun at times but then it comes to a screeching halt when I have finite passive mobs but no way to get more. Or get poisoned with no available antidote. Or find out that food can no longer heal but have no alternative that will bring my hearts back up without having to wall myself in for most of a minute to avoid taking fresh damage.

Am I the only one who thinks it's common sense to add the breeding/antidote/healing items before taking away the mechanics and making them required?

On the other hand, the new terrain generation is indeed epic. Being able to build a desert stronghold on the bend of a river through the desert and not be able to see anything but desert from the tower makes me all giddy inside.

I agree witht the breedign. It strikes me as very odd actually. When it comes to antidotes I'm not sure I agree. I don't know how it works on hard, i play on normal, and well... it's not affecting you for too long. Sure, an antidote would be nice but I'ts nothing I require to play.

With the food I just disagree. No direct healing has made it much more fun for me to explore. But I guess we're all playing the game in different ways.

P.S: Yeah I must have been really unlucky when I threw those 13 eggs. Tried in creative mode and it seems to be working as usual.

Getting poisoned once or twice when you have time to recover is one thing. Getting poisoned over and over again while trying to fight past half a dozen mobs to get back out of the mineshaft is something else. Seeing your health meter turn green when you were down to three hearts and no way to recover them is in no way fun.

I found The bug after looking on thw wikki

Lighting

* 1.8's new lighting engine makes Minecraft unplayable on some computers. The game will load just fine, and the menu will be visible, but if a save file or multiplayer world is opened the game will blackscreen.

I now hope for a Mod that removes the New lighting system If that is possible.
After upgrading my Drivers i now get this error.
