So, It took me longer then I am happy to admit to figure out how to semi-consistently survive the first couple of nights, but I think I've found two game mechanics that don't seem to have been mentioned yet (though one of them may be unintended?).

If you place them quickly, you can break dirt slightly faster by placing a stick under it as it falls, like you could with torches and sand

One of the best BTW reaction videos yet. I recommend not watching unless you've already made your first iron tool to avoid spoilers:

I have a question about that first iron tool:

Now that axes can get string from spider webs, other than crafting tables, and getting through webs faster are the chisels useful for anything later in the game? I was actually a little disappointed in the axe change. It looks like it takes a lot longer than the chisel, but now that I have a crafting bench and stone picks they don't seem as useful

I'm having trouble figuring out some midgame recipes in my old world.

How do I make smooth stone? Crucible doesn't work anymore for that, nor does a furnace or harcore packing. Is there still a way to make smooth stone? So yes, how?

It didn't read well at all. I watched player after player in streams try to harvest webs with the right tool, but give up before harvest because the relative speeds on different tools communicated the exact opposite information to them. I may do something more with that down the road as time allows, but for now, it made no sense to keep it as is.

I can understand that,

I also realized that the iron chisel has more use cases so I'm not as bothered. I also still used it on a web when I had an axe because it was faster

Yup, they do. Previously, they didn't, so they'd act as an upgrade to stone axes. Now that's obviously not necessary.

Alright, finally started a proper world from scratch. Here's my findings:

I'm at dusk of day 2, 14 pieces of food, no real issues so far, smooth ride. Once you know the recipes, I actually think this is not that hard, compared to earlier. It does feel way more streamlined and less easy to get over the initial hump. By now I would probably be mining for iron already, it feels like I've got at least a week to go to get there. I way overprepared for this :D

I'm loving it so far man, this is brilliant :)

Oh I'm expecting it to ramp up and add up over time, I was just expecting way worse, when watching streams of people dying over and over :)

Wasn't expecting not to die for 3 days straight

On a few stone blocks:

Is there any way to get regular cobblestone, or get smoothstone in large quantities without chiseling around every single one? I usually dump 8-12 stacks of cobblestone into crucibles at a time to build with, and use almost as much cobblestone in my builds. If I can't do that anymore I'm going to be sorely disappointed in the impact on my ability to make aesthetic builds.

Hoe has not changed.

You can get regular cobblestone and bricks in the world by placing the loose versions and then adding clay to serve as mortar. I haven't figured out how to get them back into my inventory though (which is actually a big problem because it means I still can't use them to build ceilings)

Unfortunately, it still doesn't fix the whole issue because without picking it up you can't craft walls, stairs, or slabs until after getting a block dispenser.

I know. I'm sure that's not intended (other than maybe for mass generation). I'm hoping someone smarter than me has figured out (and will share) the better, easier, solution.
