That's not new. Regular villages look stupid too.

Though my take on that is that you can't have the game making better buildings than 90% of the players. Otherwise people will get sad that their buildings are so crappy and stop playing. Therefor since the villagers design standards have to be less than or equal to the average player, they have to look like shit.

yeah, that makes sense, but do they have to keep the villages the same with different blocks? they could at least go crappier and make sandstone huts.

EDIT: why am I quoting people?

Please take further discussion of his over to my off-topic 1.3 discovery thread. Was my mistake for posting an in-game discovery above, but it doesn't really qualify as news.

You're going? What a trip that'll be. Damn, man, I wouldn't travel that far just for Minecon... :P
I don't remember where Battosay lives exactly, but at the very least I can say that this probably isn't as huge of a trip as you're thinking.
Note the :P. I was teasing. Damn you, lack of sarcasm in text!

Yup, that's what I was afraid of when I saw some of those screen-shots. Back to the drawing board I go.

Where's that changelog from btw?

Notes about the drop rules pulled out of Dinnerbone's tweets on the subject. It was said a few days ago now. I've linked to the tweets for confirmation.

Q: Do the mobs with armour drop the armour/weapons that they're wearing?
A: Sometimes

Q: is this going to be limited on lower difficulty?
A: It'll be rare in hard, very rare in normal, and nonexistant in easy

Q: Which kinds armour can zombies spawn with? (zombie villagers should have leather armour)
A: They "can" spawn with all, but with increasing rarity - leather will be most common

Also mentioned: And weapons. It's entirely possible you'll find a skeleton with some knockback arrows ;)

Anyhow, hope this is useful for planning. If I read that first tweet right, the won't drop all the items they're wearing every time. So the rare item drop rules might still apply. He also mentioned that item drops will only come from mobs that are actually equipped.

I'm not particularly thrilled about the idea of them dropping higher quality armors, although I like the added danger of a diamond wearing skeleton wielding a flaming bow.

The problem is not so much the quantity of drops, as much as the nature of them. As just a rough guess, what I'll probably do is restrict the armor types for mobs to iron to once again prevent gold-farming in the overworld.

Anyways, 1.4 is probably still a very long way off, so this is both the wrong place for such a discussion, and it's also premature.

Would related mod tools be relevant for this thread? Because Risugami just updated ModLoader, and I didn't see it in previous replies in the thread.

Seems like killing villagers will have some form of consequence in the future:

But... but it's okay if they go through my people farm, right?

Anyway, this should be interesting. I thought I remembered hearing something like that ages ago and figured they gave up on it... or just made the consequence that the iron golem would fight you up. I look forward to this addition actually.

I imagine you would have to choose between trading or human farm.

Am I the only one who thinks that this could be fantastic for BTW?

FC has stated for a while that he wants the game to become more difficult as you progress. Progressing in BTW involves becoming a little unhinged and evil. Mojang is setting up consequences for being evil.

Vanilla MC's going to tie in even more with BTW!

Sidenote:
It always makes me happy when this happens. One of my greatest fears when updates arrive is always that vanilla will drift violently away from the direction BTW takes you, forcing a large change to BTW's design and/or changing of vanilla mechanics.

Can we not bring up "evil" again?
