Windmill Aesthetics?

Post by RaustBlackDragon »

Above is a picture of my WIP sky tower, newly outfitted with mechanical power via windmill. It just occurred to me that, since this is going to extend all the way to the top of the map, the windmill's placement might be a bit unfitting/ugly. Any thoughts?

Make a stone ring around it, like a round wristwatch in a band.

Yeah. This last play through I've noticed that the windmill is actually a bit small. I really wish it were larger. Like twice as big.

Put the windmill in a smaller side tower attached to the main one. Of course I'm a huge fan of asymmetry.

my windmill. I used to do the generic box-y windmill tower, but that got annoying to look at after a while.

hehe, found a town just at the edge of a desert biome and the windmill is just inside the desert so it never stops ^^. half tempted to put grass around it so it looks like its in a grassy biome. but meh

Add some purely aesthetic windmills. Expensive, but it could look cool and you could place them crazily and asymmetrically or maybe in a helix or a double helix...

The possibilities are endless.

Someone suggested a stone circle. That reminded me of my windmill setup in my BTB world:

That turbine look is very very cool and I would never have thought of that.

Neither would I, it looks awesome. You could also have it in a smaller side tower as suggested above.

Yeah. Turbines are going to be Soooo much easier to build now that stair blocks can go upside down. That one is done all using BTW blocks and let me tell you, it was days of work and an entire ream of graph paper to make that work.

Ouch. I've built some complex stuff, but that is a lot of work.

Seriously, it took me more time to get that right than to get my infinite pottery setup working, and not just because creative mode. It curves around it's profile as well as it's radius.

Certainly not the most elegant design, but this will eventually extend to the height limit, with multiple windmills (mostly aesthetic)

Its a nice design, shape wise. A little bland as just wood, but the shape and use of fences in the windows makes up for it.

Generic look, nothing wrong with that. I like that its attached directly to a house. Using wood and stone to build it and the domed shape of the stone part is very nice ^^

There really needs to be a "Show Us your Aesthetic Builds" section or post here somewhere.

I actually really like yours, Maxsi. I definitely respect being able to execute the "standard" well. Your sense of proportion and scale are very good there.

I suppose, to use TheAnarchitect's words, this qualifies as "the standard." I quite like it, though I have been prompted by this thread to branch out a bit.
