Auto Kiln 9000 (Something a little different)
Auto Kiln 9000 (Something a little different)
So, once again, FlowerChild challenged me to build a "better" Auto Kiln.
Took me about 6 hours to get through it all, as well as minimize the redstone.
Here is the video explanation of it, and the mostly final version:
I do however need help with the Hopper fires, see this post:

I wanted to keep that discussion separate on purpose.

Wow, thats rally small!
I can't wait to see the video.

If the minecraft world is infinite, why does the sun still rotate around it?

Re: New Auto Kiln (Teaser)
I have a question.
What is the definition of better you were aiming for.
A) Cheaper - requires a very small amount of Redstone or other rate minerals.
B) Compact - takes up a small volume.
C) Speed - can produce a hight rate of items.
D) Low Complexity - how complex is it to build / operate.
E) Time Efficiency - does it have a time where it is not baking ( this would apply less to a bud system as it is more or less a instant reaction but would to a timed system.)
F) Maintenance - if used incorrectly could it catastrophically fail.

You could also add low resource cost.

Re: New Auto Kiln (Teaser)
After watching the stream I couldn't wait building my own version.
While doing so I found a solution for the BD powering problem you had.
If you power the BDs like in the picture, the pistons below aren't powered and there is even room for a hopper above.

The "Better" was part of the challenge to do a side by side setup with two kilns. Basically, instead of doing the kiln with 2 on the left right, do it with one of them right/back, another next to it left/back.
The challenges came when i wanted to auto-feed it, cook, and push the contents out.
It also uses 3 less hibachi's than a standard side by side, so... cheaper?
It was a seriously technical build, but it turned out pretty awesome in the end. I normally don't put "tech challenge" things in my world, but this one is going in for sure legit.

Re: New Auto Kiln (Teaser)
I tend to do challenge style builds.
I will build something and make it as compact as possible and then put it in my main world.

personally I just have the top open with pistons and water flood in to clear it out. saves a lot of repeaters / timing headaches I do like the kiln I just think you made life harder for your self in terms of yore design choices.

Re: Auto Kiln 9000 (Something a little different)
Nah, his method works quite well and is able to minimize redundant resources. Moving the two "extra" pistons from the double sets to the top of the kilns probably wouldn't make it any less complicated to wire and time. If the contraption someone is trying to time increases convenience at all, then it's only a matter of time until it pays for itself. His setup works perfectly for its intended purpose. Unless you're proposing a way to remove the small issue with directional alignment, you're trying to fix what isn't broken.
And if the concern is the amount of repeaters this requires, remember that one gold nugget and one netherrack is enough to produce two repeaters. Redstone is practically renewable thanks to the opportunity to synthesize it.

Glad you got it working man. Sorry I split so abruptly before you were done. Tooth pain got rather unbearable and I had to run around the block a few times screaming to relieve some stress :)RenEvo wrote:Video is up!

If you going to set challengers for RenEvo why not open them up the the general BTW community and make a competition of it. I'm shore that there would be a lot of people interested in competing for bragging rights.FlowerChild wrote: Glad you got it working man. Sorry I split so abruptly before you were done.
