Guys, please use the right capitalization, there's a huge difference between Kilobyte and Kilobit.

5Mbps is not the same as 5MBps

For example, my line is 50Mbps, which in reality means I get about 5MBps (or 40Mbps)

All right, I have 4.5 Megabit per second. That sound normal.

I pay for 25/25, but I usually get around 20Mb/s, so I can't complain. That's still about 7 and a half gigs an hour.

Can't wait to be rich and pulling those 50Mb/s speeds. :P

Rich? I only pay around $50/month for 50Mbps. I wouldn't call myself rich by a long shot :P

... I hate you, Gil. I don't even think they offer that type of speed around here. Which really sucks.

I've got a 30Mbps line, with only about 1Mbps upload (That's according to speedtest.net, I believe I'm actually paying for 25 down/2 up ro something... Haven't payed much attention lately lol). My parents/brothers living not far from here have 100Mbps down, not sure about their up speed.

Yeah, absolutely that ...

I think this makes for a nice and easy poll question though, so maybe we can take it over there?

You're actually getting 9Mbps, not MBps, a MBps is 8 times as much as a Mbps. So getting 1MBps form a 9Mbps connection is pretty reasonable.

MBps = Megabyte per second
Mbps = Megabit per second

My connection as of now is 17 Mbps down, ~2 Mbps up. (NC, USA - Time Warner)

Down 13364 kbps

Up 1020 kbps

Dunno, it is enough for me,download speed is not important. Reliability is. I get tons of disconnections,and lots of lag in games. My line sucks.

Ahhhhh... UK Cable! In theory I pay for 20Mbs but in reality I get between 15 at peak and 40 when everyone else on the street turn their TV's off!

Sadly, not 88 MPH ;)

A theoretical 50Mbps for real.

Upgrade your Wifi modem Or move closer / Further away ( you will find s sweet spot eventually ) Or invest in some cat 6 Ether net cables ( like I did ) and it help's a bit.

Also for download Try orbit downloader http://www.orbitdownloader.com/index.htm. It is very helpful for downloading you tube vids and other files form the net. ( and the grab ++ feature is most useful )

If i can download you tube videos on a 10 KB/s Connections ( what my speed slows to after I exceed limit ) then it can help you maybe

Suffice it to say I can't really complain.
It's really stable too.

I still remember my old 56k modem... 5 kilobyte/s. Those were the times.

Oh, SpeedTest.net, you liar.

I just checked, and it's telling me I only pull 1MB/s when I most definitely know I do not. I do enough downloading to know what my cap speed is, silly internet.

Also, yes. I am very offended by your lack of sharing awesome-tier internet, Europe.

Maybe get someone to level the US's internet structure, so that they'll rebuild it better? Then again, knowing the people in charge of it, they'd just replace it with the same stuff.

It's all just infrastructure. From Belgium, over The Netherlands, Denmark, to Sweden, it's all fiber cable. Once that infrastructure is in place, fast internet simply becomes cheap :)

Interestingly enough though, if I select a Belgian server (or any server outside of the Netherlands), my speed suddenly halves. Even if it's roughly the same distance away as this particular server.

See, the funny thing is, I run fiber cables too. But I'm not getting anything near 50 Mb/s.

I don't do networking, though, so this is all bananas and pears to me.
