I used to have the same quandary, then FC clarified that Blight isn't really meant to be beneficial by itself, rather it's simply a byproduct of your progress.

So it is not like bloodwood or Groth. It is just a challenge to get around nothing you can turn to your benefit.
It's FC mod, he just lets us play it.

Oh there's definitely motivation to get it to fully mature if you've got bad luck finding mushroom biomes...

oh that's right, it is a synthetic.
