Apparently I have completely missed the bus on Silverfish.

I have a 4 level Obsidian beacon in the End.

I have built a nice tasty stone brick house with a stack of stone bricks. I then moved about 50 blocks away to my wooden Enderman farm, left myself logged in, and ate lunch. 20 minutes later I come back and pick apart my test house. I got 1 silverfish.
I must have the wrong idea about how silverfish spawn. I have seen a couple running around on the endstone, but I don't seem to be able to make this "farmable".

Any help/hints would be greatly appreciated.

make them spawn on endstone then use vines to get them to a collection point. no not use stone stonebrick mossy stonebrick in building your trap. also make it far away from the main island so they only spawn in the trap pads and no outside of it

There's no way you're going to get a decent rate out of the above. Using stone to "breed" them is pretty central to the farming mechanic.

do BDs spit out the silverfish when picking up a silverfish block?

Better question: Does a buddy block detect a change of state when a silverfish infests a block?

Note that I have no idea myself, as I've never made it to the End, but it just occurred to me that if so, that's probably how one is expected to make a silverfish farm.
