Re: Castle Story looks like it has a lot of potential

DF's problem isn't its learning curve or its graphics... it's the retarded clunky controls/interface. Going for nostalgia is one thing, but not using the mouse in any way whatsoever? That's just really, really bad decision making right there. Not to mention there's almost no logic to how the menu's ...

Re: Castle Story looks like it has a lot of potential

Yup, saw this when notch tweeted about it, and immediately added their site and twitter to my favorites. This looks like it might actually turn out to be an accessible, or at least less soul-torturing, version of Dwarf Fortress. Something which I've been hoping for for years now. Of course, it'll al...

Re: Favorite Let's Plays?

X was pretty fun to watch, but he quit a long time ago (his "fans" probably don't help matters much). Aside from him, the only LP that I regularly watch is Zisteau's. I find him genuinely funny, but he can also build really amazing stuff if he puts his mind to it. Also, watching him fall f...

Re: My favorite game song ;-)

One of these, hm? Kinda hard to narrow it down to only one song, but I'll try. LTDAVnFXWsg Yeah. This particular song made for a rather interesting bosstheme, to say the least. Especially if you add the visuals in the background. Then once I read the lyrics it became that much better. Of course, the...

Re: This inspires me!

Inspire? These kind of vids only hit me in the face with a blunt object :p All they do is make me realize just how little creativity I have and generally leave me depressed and really unmotivated to play, hah.

Doesn't make them any less impressive and fun to watch, though.

Re: Mass Effect

Mass Effect is great as far as story, characters and setting is concerned... but as games, they leave quite a bit to be desired. (Goes for a lot of Bioware games these days, unfortunately) I understand Bioware is trying to appeal to the whole FPS mob that dominates gaming these days, but I personall...

Re: Anyone used Thaumcraft?

Just watched one of the vids, looks like a far less OP (and more interesting, if you ask me) version of Equivalent Exchange. I might try it out if I ever decide to go all mod-crazy again. It gives "junk" items some more value (does that crucible accept seeds?), adds some of the better part...

Re: Weekly Poll: #10 What languages do you speak?

Dutch (Learning) WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS!? *insert meme picture here* Seriously though, I'm rather curious to why anyone would want to learn Dutch, considering it's probably one of the ugliest languages in the world, not to mention one of the most difficult ones. (The fact that various grammar and sp...

Dutchtopia represent? Kinda amazed how many of us there are here.

Anyway: Dutch, English and currently studying Japanese. I can also understand some basic German, but please, for the love of bunnies, don't ask me to speak/write it.

Re: BTW Build Style

Normally I jam everything into a single room for maximum efficiency, but I'm planning on building a proper settlement in my current playthrough, so everything will get its own building this time. The city is being built inside of a chasm, so you won't see all that much from the outside, but I intend...

Re: I found a use for tables! :)

*Hug* I'll try to steer it back on-course, then. Those tables do look very nice. They definitely beat the fence/pressure pad combo I've been using up until now. Just too bad I'm not allowed to build a windmill or a saw yet. Can you stack tables on top of one another? They might make for nice makeshi...

Re: Snow biome

I ran into something of a reverse problem today. On my City Construction Challenge map, I spawned in the middle of a huge snow biome, surrounded by an ocean biome. Even while running, it takes a full in-game day to get to the edge. Finding a wolf wasn't exactly easy. Especially since the first pine ...

Interestingly enough though, if I select a Belgian server (or any server outside of the Netherlands), my speed suddenly halves. Even if it's roughly the same distance away as this particular server.

Yeah, those are from before my time I'm afraid. Too bad, I probably would've loved them. My very first exposure to PCs was when I was 3 or so. No idea what specs it had, but I do distinctly remember liking to play an ASCII platformer on a fabulous black-and-purple display. The very first PC I actual...

Hello everyone. My name is Tsugumi Henduluin and I am a lurker. Suffice it to say I can't really complain.

I still remember my old 56k modem... 5 kilobyte/s. Those were the times.

First of all, thanks for the pack. Always been a big fan of JohnSmith's pack, so it's nice to see a version that is BTW compatible. A quick question, though: I just started a Hardcore mode game with your pack enabled, but it doesn't show my health bar. Did you simply not get to updating that part ye...

Re: Interesting challenges to use in a new world?

Right, thanks all. I've pretty much settled on the City Challenge. It'll give me a nice, long-term goal and it'll encourage me to actually try my hands on creating some aesthetically pleasing buildings for a change. The city of Markarth from Skyrim gave me some inspiration in that regard, though it'...

Re: Interesting challenges to use in a new world?

Thanks for the offer, but I think I prefer staying above-ground as I've been waiting to see snow again ever since it got kicked out of the game in 1.8. (I miss the old winter mode... I still hate myself for losing my old world, bah) That city construction challenge sounds really interesting however....

Haha, I knew I should've picked a different analogy :p It's not the people or their culture I have issues with, just their language. Interesting challenges to use in a new world?

So, with 1.0.0 finally here, I'm thinking of starting over completely from scratch. However, I'd like to mix things up a bit this time around and not just start yet another standard world. So I was wondering if anyone here knew of some interesting challenges or goals to use in my new world. I'd like...

Re: M!C's News Compilation

So, apparently jeb is now the lead developer on Minecraft. I wonder what that'll mean for the game. At the very least, he seems slightly more motivated to actually work on the game than Notch has been for the past, say, year or so.
