Re: Adjudicator's first elevator build

Apologies for the double post. Here's the video of my first functioning elevator. It's pretty simple, but I learned quite a bit making it, so it served its purpose. And, given the plans I have for the cliff face, I'm pleased with the appearance. The only quibble I have with the John Smith Texture Pa...

Re: Adjudicator's first elevator build

That did it! I had to rearrange some of my aesthetic elements, but thankfully I didn't have to move any of the major structural elements of the frame or cliff face.

I'm going to clean it all up, hide all the redstone, and then I'll put together a short video of the elevator.

Many thanks, Grimper!

Re: Adjudicator's first elevator build

Thanks, grimper. Quick couple of questions: 1. Does the button have to be attached to the t-flip flop? Can I run a redstone dust trail to the flip flop and have the button on the other end? I can save a lot of redesign on the elevator if I can do the above. If not, I'll have to move things a bit to ...

Adjudicator's first elevator build

So I decided to take a brake from automated farms and add something I'd wanted to do for a while, even though it was almost entirely aesthetic - my glass-encased elevator on the front of the cliff leading up to the bluff my main base is built on. Right now it only goes from Y-98 to Y-68, but once I ...

Re: Creepig's Ice Farm (V2.0)

So I'm assuming that you have to place the farm in a snow biome? You can't use a BD to grab a bunch of ice blocks and artificially create your own ice biome back at your home base? I ended up pretty far south, I guess, so my closest snow biome is 2+ minecraft days walk away. Still, very cool design ...

Re: The Learning Curve: Redstone, Logic, and Applications

I'd be very interested in this as well. I'm feeling my up the Redstone knowledge chain, usually failure by failure. I still don't have a functioning rail system because I can't figure out why I can't switch the curved track to straight even when running power to it. Anyway, I'd be happy to assist ho...

Re: BTW: Design Philosophy

Ok, let's wrangle this back on-topic. Given the general level of response, I find my own suspicions confirmed with the idea that BTW should not overly concern itself with trying to mirror vM in any significant way. What I do want to really grab onto is the way of expressing the interaction between v...

Re: Automatic Tree Farm Discussion

Yeah, so, given my automation of hemp, wheat, reed, slimes, and mobs so far, trees and dung are next on my list. Since this has become the generic automated tree farm discussion thread (which is a good idea, I think. We should have a comparable thread for all of our automated farms), I'm soliciting ...

Great discussion on the new mod already guys. I'll chime in with a few points and then try to create a clear discussion questions for us to move forward on, rather than trying to tackle all the elements of then 2.8 update all at once. I knew there was a reason I kept the three full chests of feathers from my mob trap! I got my bellows working with netherrack and cooked up some tallow and glue with my handcrank. And managed to burn my saw b/c it was too close to my netherrack (d'oh). So now I will hook up one of those awesome turn...

Re: BTW: Design Experiment - Automated Hemp Farm Guide

So I was fiddling with things following updating to 2.71 and found out something interesting. If you place a redstone repeater directly on top of a turntable and then have redstone dust running off at a 90 degree angle (didn't check this at the 180) and have that redstone dust block powered by a red...

Re: BTW: Design Experiment - Automated Hemp Farm Guide

So I took Urian's advice and threw two hoppers with rollers into the channel before I went to bed last night and let the farm run for 6.5 hours. When I came back, the hoppers had collected all of the seeds (6 full stacks and some partials) and the chest was full of hemp fibers with 7 more full stack...

Wow, I go off to actually play the game for a bit and come back to a fully developed debate going on. Awesome! So, to throw my opinion in the mix. If we are talking about simply improving upon the existing vM framework to get the most out of a system that should be functioning better than it current...

Re: BTW: Design Experiment - Automated Hemp Farm Guide

So I let this run overnight and discovered a few interesting things. First, this produces way more seed than I expected. There were three full stacks clogging the mill stone that I had to clear out, and two more full stacks and a partial in the hopper above it. Second, it produces a lot of hemp! Eve...

BTW: Design Experiment - Automated Hemp Farm Guide

So I decided to take a break from thinking deep thoughts about Better Than Wolves and try my hand at actually utilizing some of the principles BTW encourages in Minecraft players. Below is my attempt at a tutorial/exposition on a piston-driven, turntable-timed (because 2.70 came out as I was working...

I've looked at FRAPS and am considering using it to work on some tutorial videos (mainly for my benefit. I learn best when I'm teaching).
