Re: A Journal of An Old(er) Player playing New BTW
And so, I end the first day thus. http://i.imgur.com/F2waq6m.png Or rather, like this: http://www.publicdomainpictures.net/pictures/10000/nahled/1413-1246839066To8m.jpg You succeeded in the (rather difficult) task of making a stone pick on day 1! You should be down there digging your grave! (I mean...

Re: Finding Villages
Sounds to me like you're doing everything right. A lot of it is just luck; in my case, I rather quickly found three desert temples and 2 villages, all of which easily fit on the same map. This was in spite of my incredibly inefficient methodology of exploration, where I seldom walked further than ha...

Keep your wits about you; there is at least one other mode of transmission as well! If you find yourself dealing with an infection that is getting out of control, try listening for the sound of infection. (I'm not referring to the low voices; I'm referring to a ghast-like sound made at the moment of...

Re: [SPOILERZ] Hardcore Villagers trading mechanics.
Actually, the chopping block was an alternative I was already considering. I had some vague ideas on how I might go about doing it (like building safe walking lanes for me outside the walls of the fortress), but had yet to really work out enough of the specifics to convince myself that it would work...

Re: [SPOILERZ] Hardcore Villagers trading mechanics.
The requirement for a priest to get to level 4 has nothing to do with steel, so I'm not sure what you're referring to there. Mind posting a screenshot? I think you've misinterpreted me. To my understanding, getting a priest to level 4 is the only way to get Ender Eyes, and Ender Eyes are a requirem...

Re: [SPOILERZ] Hardcore Villagers trading mechanics.
Have you ever read through an entire thread and wondered if people are even playing the same game as you? And then read through it again just to make sure? I just found out the requirement for getting a Priest to level 4. Which, to my best understanding, is a requirement for Steel, as I've still yet...

If you place an infinite number of monkeys behind an infinite number of keyboards, give them an infinite amount of time, and then hook up all of the keyboards to the same typewriter... well, you'll probably break the typewriter.

Re: Your HCS Outpost Process?
Oh, is this thread asking about exploring the HCS zone? (as in, prior to spawning there?) I don't really go too far from my shelter. For the most part, I don't really need to. When I used to go out on long hunting trips, I liberally placed landmarks pointing back to my current base, and did nothing ...

Re: Unexpected behaviour with gearbox placement
Relax dude. He was saying you CAN'T do that :) Mmh, I think I interpreted his statement differently (I thought he was saying it was by design that you couldn't do it, hence the TEs required to count the distance). Anyways, I'm stumped. I hate to be the one that suggests an install issue, but that's...

Re: Unexpected behaviour with gearbox placement
Well that wasn't what I meant. By power source I meant windmill or waterwheel. If I remember correctly mechanical power fades away, so you can't carry it for say 200 blocks from just one waterwheel. However I have just started to doubt this, please disregard my earlier post unless someone confirms....

Re: No rain sound on fast graphics
Create a creative world (or just one with cheats turned on) and use the weather command ie "/weather rain 1000" (not /toggledownfall as that creates thunderstorms, which as proven can be heard). Ah, okay. This I can verify. Indeed, regular, non-storm rain makes no sound on Fast graphics o...

Re: BTW server plugins? protection, lock - possible requests
Also, allow me to quickly dispel the notion that the command blocks themselves have anything at all to do with commands.
Or that a counter for anything could be trivially added without modifying the code where that thing happens. (Lucky for you, the counter you seek is already in the game.)

Re: Post your most anticipated games of 2014
Wow, I think it says something to me that I don't even recognize half the games being mentioned here! (this certainly wouldn't have been the case in years past) There's some Japanese titles I'm looking forward to on 3DS, as part of my hopeless determined efforts to learn the language. Or, well, actu...

Re: Odd vs even
I think the majority of my planned builds are odd width, as oftentimes there's a key feature that I want on a central block (such as a hopper or other block with an inventory, or a water source). Railways also really only make sense in odd hallways (unless you're on SMP and need two lanes). Portals ...

Re: No rain sound on fast graphics
Particles are not set to minimal and the rain sound does come back when i set the details to fancy so I can accept that something is wrong on my part but i can totally reproduce what was explained in the bug that FC closed, thus why I made this post. Hm. My apologies then for jumping to the conclus...

Re: No rain sound on fast graphics
I think this and the recent bug thread on anvil items suggest to me that we need to teach a little bit of scientific method here. :P It's easy to come up with a hypothesis. For example, I use setting X, and I have problem Y. Other people who use setting X also have problem Y. Therefore setting X cau...

Re: Death at anvil, items inside disappear
I've been running tests too, and am unable to replicate this behavior for regular, non-environment-damaging causes of damage (i.e. a zombie or a dead weight). However, it does appear to occur if the anvil is destroyed (i.e. by a creeper). In contrast, this does not appear to happen to a regular craf...

Re: Share Your Epic Fails
My fail is less epic this time (or rather, it's a bit more standard), but the impact is undeniably worse: I left my door open as I entered, only intending to make a brief visit. And, well, no visit is too brief for a "visitor" to arrive. I only just barely managed to make it over the top o...

Re: What's your door? - Base entrance thread
I think the mobs are just checking to see if there's a 1-Up at the top (that'd be a good place to hide one). But where is that water going? I don't see holes on the sides, and if there's a hole below, I could see some potential dangers. (as that barrier would also be impermeable to Steves at low hea...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
netherquartz and lapis gaining usage in enchanting and more crafting looks like incentivised mining to me. I'm a little dissapointed that the granite and dolorite were treated as ores instead of layers of rock. They feel like the next gravel deposit now. Honestly, I'd prefer it the way it is over t...

Re: Share Your Epic Fails
So I've been meaning to separate my tanning and cooking for a while. But here's the thing: For over a year, all of my unstoked cauldrons have followed a single general design: Cobblestone slabs around a cauldron placed at foot level. I guess I just somehow decided at some point that this way is supe...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
Well, I am confounded by the crafting recipes for the new stone types (yes, you can craft them). Mostly because of this: 1 Nether Quartz + 1 Diorite = 1 Granite 2 Nether Quartz + 2 Cobble = 2 Diorite Note that the diorite recipe requires twice as much input to produce... er, twice as much output. So...
