Re: Research Bench Add-On -Help needed writing item descript

Hmmm, I'd probably go with a more subtle route. For example, the blaze rod/powder texts as a hint for filaments; say things more along of the lines of 'The blaze rod may be more useful if ground into powder' 'The cauldron could be useful for mixing things together' 'redstone seems to have the abili...

Re: Research Bench Add-On -Help needed writing item descript

Still subject to change, but this has to be one of my favorites so far: "Ancient lost craftsmanship must have been required to craft this sword from solid stone. Runes and images are engraved down the side, depicting 3 skulls atop what appears to be soul sand." The concept just fits in so ...

Re: Research Bench Add-On -Help needed writing item descript

Yeah, jumping into #btwaddon in irc would be the best place to come if you want to help out. We've worked out the style we're going for a bit better now too. General format is <observation> <important uses>, so rather than repeating the item name, it's more about first describing something which tel...

Research Bench Add-On development thread.

So I've got most of the code written for this add-on and now I just need some help writing descriptions for, well... all the items in the entire game. What's this mod all about? Well here's a picture showing the general idea: http://i.imgur.com/t6c5IiG.png The core concept behind the add-on is to ge...

Iron trapdoor

Similar to the door, an iron equivalent of a trapdoor that only responds to redstone would be very useful. Trapdoors look really neat mechanically in some builds, such as a platform to drop items onto for a bellows sorter or as closing hatches to block items off.

Added to this, they are turned into an item if attempted to be pushed by a piston and can't be pulled by a sticky piston. I'm not sure if any other full block in the game do that.

Use a guide map at the same scale, then craft the other maps while standing on the corners of that first map.

Re: It's like a whole new game :)

Now, to the point I intended to make regarding the time needed before one can really start with the BTW tech tree (beside growing hemp). To me, it only depends on one thing : decent food supplies. And to achieve that, I don't see any other solution than growing wheat and breeding animals. I haven't...

Re: Incredibly useful early-game builds

The earliest build I make is an auto chicken feeder. Using a tripwire over a hopper to detect egg drops. The chickens are standing on a powered hopper where the seeds drop next to them. This is my favorite food build next to the cow grinder in late game. Once I have the chicken grinder up I have ti...

So I was fully equipped with early game gear, full leather and plenty of axes, when I saw a zombie carrying a large very shiny spoon. So I thought "Thats a very nice shiny spoon you got there . . . GIVE IT ME!" And I attacked the zombie who proceded to two shot me with his spoon. His burp...

Does your rhyme cover what happens when the tunnel loops back around on itself and you have multiple indicators pointing you "out" of the cave? That method has definite faults guys, false information and excessive torch use included. Harping on it doesn't change that. Yeah, it works well ...

Re: What brightness do you play at?

This is a great example of where I sabotage my play experience to some extent. I think everything looks a lot better on moody, but I often find myself pumping it up to max brightness simply because it makes it easier to see in caves. I think Minecraft could use one of those "move the slider til...

Re: Effective compass use to calculate position

Back before BTW existed I used to play my own game in Minecraft. I would generate a new world, use an application someone made to move my player position randomly out 10km away, then make it my goal to make it back to spawn by building a safe path through the Nether. The first step of this was alway...

them attacking everything with shovels is making me die a little inside. I dunno, the shovel thing kind of struck me as clever. ...

It can be quite handy to stick mushrooms under the wall next to hallways you use a lot. Cross section: [] [] [] [] m [][][] With a few of these, you can just pop any mushrooms that have grown as you regularly walk past, rather than having to go check on a specific mushroom farm. Plus with them hidde...

I've been thoroughly enjoying this LP too. Always nice to see some fresh eyes trying out the mod, even if I do end up wanting to shout things at the screen (pumpkins need grass or dirt to grow onto! At least they should discover this when one of the end stems grows). And the segment of getting the c...
