Re: Rawny builds

Why the cactus arm? Why 3 windmills? It doesn't provide any more power than one. This is a perfect example of how creative mode effects design. You'd never toss down 3 windmills when one would do in survival, because you'd have to farm all that hemp. Your first design is way better. It needs a littl...

Re: How long does it take you to get through the tech tree?

That's certainly a valid strategy. Another one is to make a windmill, and only put it up when you are actively using said power. By the time you are building mechanisms that require being powered while you aren't present, you'll have waterwheels. Hell, in a fast tech-up I probably would only use it ...

Leave it to these guys to come up with a useful mechanism from a silly feature.

I make those cauldrons all the damn time, actually, because they make great looking sinks in kitchens.

Re: Working on a BTW addon

Please don't. The texture looks great repurposed, but logically a pile of leaves shouldn't function that way and we've already got the vine trap for that purpose. If I gave them any purpose, it would be as a source of pink dye. Actually, one of the reasons I never used ExtraBiomesXL was that while y...

Actually, prelim testing suggests that 1.2.4 mods work on 1.2.5, with a couple of class file exceptions. Someone tested BTW with it, and it mostly works. Maybe you wont even have to update your mods. Maybe they'll be forward compatible.

Here's how you can easily do a "source changer" for mechanical power that will work after this change goes into effect. http://i.imgur.com/B09d9.png As you can see, there are two mechanical power sources here, though both are waterwheels. The inputs are on the right and left, while the out...

Interesting discovery. This is less a suggestion and more of a bug report. I'd repost it over there: it's more likely to get taken seriously.

Nope. Everyone assumes that because you CAN be a dick to each other in anarchy, that you somehow HAVE to be a dick to each other in Anarchy.

Re: How long does it take you to get through the tech tree?

I actually have a completely different strategy in mind. I plan on being completely open about where I am. Hell, I may just set up next to spawn. After all, what's the point of all that pretty architecture if no one can see it? No, when multiplayer comes I am inviting you all over for tea and cakes.

Re: Design Change Warning: Rotating Gear Boxes

OK, I ran into a similar problem where axles were breaking on a hopper over a rotating dispenser. My solution was to use a BD to suck up the hopper and replace it after rotation was complete. Something similar might work in these situations. Sucking up the axles is unlikely to work because they won'...

It will be a race if we ever have multiplayer.

I know because just as I get my first windmill up someone with steel armor and Weapons is going to kill me and search my corpse for loose diamonds.

What I love about this is that people either love or hate Pepsi or Coke for the same reasons. I mean, people who hate Pepsi hate it because it's too sweeter than Coke, while People who love Pepsi love it because it's sweeter than Coke. It's one of those rare cases where even though people have passi...

Re: How long does it take you to get through the tech tree?

Maybe, maybe not. The scope of our awareness has changed. But a villager in northern europe in 1200 AD was really only aware of a small portion of the world, and to him that's all there was. And he lived with the daily knowledge that at any moment, a shit-ton of Norsemen could show up in longboats a...

I've come to peace with being me both in RL and on the net. Yeah, this attitude is great and all, until you lose your job over it. Re: How long does it take you to get through the tech tree?

It's a concept that seems counter-intuitive to most as I think our natural tendency is to try and remove constraints from problems we are faced with in life to make them easier to resolve. The thing is, I think this is also true in real life. Psychologically, our brains have a tendency to become ac...

Musical theater should burn in a fire. You might like Wagner's Ring cycle then. It's a 4 part opera that's basically the Norse gods fighting over Sauron's ring, with the last play being Ragnarok. Wagner's original performance was in a specially built theatre that was burned to the ground in the las...

Very nice idea, good start on it.

Here's the requested brutality:

The tower itself needs to be symmetrical front to back. It looks somewhat deformed otherwise.

The base is too big for the tower. For something like this, you need at least a 4 to 1 ratio of tower to base, or it looks stunted.

What typically happens is that I'm telling a story about something, and suddenly a detail I didn't think much of arouses interest in my audience.
