Creative freedom in BTW and Minecraft [design discussion]
So, there's been a discrepancy between BTW and a very fundamental part of Minecraft that I've been perceiving for a while and I think one of FC's latest posts sort of helped me to finally put it into words. I'm fully aware I could be wrong in what I'm seeing, or thinking about things wrong, but I th...

Re: Vanilla Feature court - Session 1 - Analog Redstone
My problem was that Auto-Cauldrons dump out absolutely everything when they tip, processed or not, so it had occurred to me way back when that to be fully automatic they would either need to re-sort items coming out for wastage and then either moving items upwards or disposing of the unreacted stuf...

Re: Vanilla Feature court - Session 1 - Analog Redstone
Oh, One thing I should have added to my above post but was too confused by this whole "interpersonal communication" thing to do so: The exact reason I was excited by that theoretical hopper change, and would also be for any bulk item counting functionality up to and including sticking a co...

Re: Show me your nether regions! (Mob traps :P)
I thought you guys would never ask. Time to dig out the webcam. Dude, you have the Groth. Ain't noone wanna see that. Speak for yourself! I've always found that healthy groth is a beautiful sign of a well kept nether region. Or maybe "becoming one" with it too many times turns you into a ...

Re: Vanilla Feature court - Session 1 - Analog Redstone
Speaking for myself, This is a feature I could get behind. The implementation may have been flubbed, but the concept has always felt to me like a very natural extension of how redstone's logic system works. Adding multiple signal states to single wires is something I had seen from time to time in ad...

What do they do??? They are pilling up on my inventory but i still havent figured it out! Please tell me you mean storage room. Anyways, given the length of the thread and lack of answers, It's most likely that any practical use has not been implemented/does not exist. Given the post on linking RTH...

Re: Happy BTW day everyone!
Happy second anniversary. Were it not for this mod I would probably have abandoned Minecraft long ago and were it not for the community around it, I would not have downloaded the mod. You've provided me with many hours of enjoyment, frustration, discovery, creation and the occasional facepalm. Thank...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
So yea, 2.0 contains some stuff that is completely within Mojang's expected behavior. I can't say whether or not any of this is stuff they are seriously considering but from what's in there I'm guessing that, regardless of whatever they plan to do next on their part, the primary reason for all of t...

Re: Speculating on BTW's story and narrative.
Sudden Epiphany: What if time doesn't move slowly in the End? What if it's the Overworld that is weird? I mean we've got 20 minute days, "water" evaporating incredibly fast, animals and crops growing ridiculously fast, healing of anything below a lethal wound in minutes, and many other thi...

Re: 4.64 Balance Observations & Discussion
Just started up Minecraft for the first time in months after the 4.62 release and haven't done much out of the ordinary yet but here are my observations on going out and finding a village for new crops. Actually having a reason to go out and explore is nice. Had too much tech to see if the Hardcore ...

Re: Speculating on BTW's story and narrative.
A nuclear explosion evaporates all the water of the villages within range and kills the villagers. The radiation causes the dead to rise, so Steve must fend off hordes of undead zombies and skeletons. Were this to be the case I would also expect: All affected villages would be set on fire by the he...

Re: Speculating on BTW's story and narrative.
Hmm... I'm not actually sure I like the idea of Steve as an eldritch abomination/otherwise great villain or inherently dangerous entrant into Minecraft's reality. It's certainly amusing the think about but to me it's seems that it undermines the idea of Steve as an avatar of the player's struggle wi...

Re: Speculating on BTW's story and narrative.
I don't think zombies sieges depopulating villages was what FC was dismissing so much as the idea that the the abandoned villagers themselves became zombies. Regardless of that announcement, I personally still like and hold to the idea that dead villagers have parts of their souls harvested and then...

Eh, it wouldn't be much more in the scheme of things: It used to be you had to pony up someone's deepest desires for each purchase.FlowerChild wrote: Sorry, it was a drink each. Didn't mean to devalue the soul market like that.
Souls really are a buyers' market these days.

Re: Steam Sales
Seeing as I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread yet, I should note that Antichamber is currently 40% off. I find it has the same kind of "figure it out for yourself" appeal to it's puzzle mechanics as BTW's mechanical power, redstone, and automated contraptions so I'd recommend it to ...

Re: The potential of lighting
I do have a concern with the proposal in the opening post. If we go with this idea and make the lighting system nice and complex, how many other mechanics can a player handle? I can see myself dealing with this mechanic and also building automated systems in a small base, so long as they don't have ...

Great design man! I had the same idea with the BD on a turntable. Unfortunately I'm trying to make mine waterless and well ... :/ Also a design I frequently use for stream splitters uses a vanilla dispenser on top of a block with a torch on the side on a turntable. You can control how many streams ...

Re: Speculating on BTW's story and narrative.
This is one of the best descriptions or advertisements for BTW I have read. There certainly are deeper levels to the lore which you've not touched on, but as a description of how the technological process of the game goes, this is great. Yeah, I figured I'd leave out a lot of the background lore fo...

Speculating on BTW's story and narrative.
So I've been thinking about BTW's plot and narrative lately and I'd like to share my thoughts on what the overarching story might be. Our story begins with Steve waking up to find himself in an unknown land. We do not know how he got here, and we do not know whether he is here out of intent, or acci...

Re: Place your bets : rampant speculation on the new feature
One thing I can't help but think: For this to be on the level of hardcore buckets, It would have to be something at least as ubiquitous and important as Water mechanics in a water transport based industrial mod. The things on that level I can think of are: Caves(And like structures) , Ores/Resource...

Re: Place your bets : rampant speculation on the new feature
I'd like to support the idea of reduced view distance during night time, that would be terrifying in the early game. Night would truly be an obstetrical and a threat to be avoided. Actually, That sounds pretty likely... I've noticed myself that since the ability to increase the brightness went in i...

So here's something cool I learned on the server tonight. So I'm off doing stuff that will be made clear later in this post but along the way I encounter a trio of endermen. Naturally, being low tech and a little nuts, my first thought is "Enderpearls!" and I attack them. As it so happens ...

Fortress mobs spawning on sidings?
So on an SMP server we've got a fortress covered over in smooth stone sidings used as half slabs, As part of that it's got a section where there's a netherbrick roof over the walkway topped by stone sidings. Weird thing is, since the 4.54 update Mobs keep spawning there right on top of the sidings. ...
